Simulation Index (content)This page provides a list of our range of simulations on a functional content basis |
This page lists our simulations to allow you to go directly from a content/functional need to the appropriate simulations. Because of breadth of scope several simulations appear in several categories. But to help you if you find the right simulation we also have lists organised differently.
List organised by simulation series (this
shows our simulations organised by family)
List organised alphabetically (if you
know the simulation's name this allows you to link directly to information
about it)
List organised by duration (this
allows you to chose a simulation where time is at a premium)
List organised by availability (this
separates simulations that you can run yourself from those where we run them
for you)
List organised by managerial level
(this separates simulations for junior management and below from
middle and above)
The simulations below are organised in to the following areas:
These simulations are ideal to introduce junior staff, specialists, graduate trainees etc. to business. Its main functional areas (marketing, finance and operations) and how these link and interact. The Challenge simulations each address a different industrial setting and the UMIX simulation is especially concerned with the internal flows of materials, money and information.

All simulations tend to have a financial dimension but these are widely used on financial appreciation courses. Financial Analysis is a short planning simulation designed to allow participants to learn about key financial accounts and measures and how managerial actions influence these. The Challenge simulations are slightly longer and focus on separate industries. Management Experience explores variance analysis and Discounted Cash Flow. Market Strategy links marketing mix actions with sales growth, profitability measures and cash flow. Product Launch is a quickly shows to participants the difference between profit and cash flow and Sales Calls help sales people and managers understand basic financial measures of sales performance.

These simulations are designed to be used by sales staff, field sales managers and sales directors. Product Launch is a very short simulation that introduces sales people and management to basic business ideas (pricing, promotion, sales forecasting, profits and cash flow). Sales Mix is a business oriented team working/building simulation.Business Focus and Sales Calls explore customer segmentation and focus and financial outcomes. The negotiations are role plays where simulation models are used to assess the financial outcomes of proposals. Distrain was designed to help sales people understand the issues facing their business customers. Profess explores the issues facing the area sales management of a professional services company. Prospector explores the commercial issues associated with searching for and winning profitable contracts. SMITE comprehensively covers sales management, hiring and developing staff, managing territories - with an overall focus on financial success..

These simulations are designed to be used to explore marketing. Market Strategy links marketing mix actions with sales growth, profitability measures and cash flow. Product Launch is a quickly shows to participants the difference between profit and cash flow. Retail and Sales Mix explore the impact of price and promotion on sale revenue, profit and meeting targets. SMART explores the strategic impact of the marketing mix.

These simulations allow participants to explore operational issues such as forecasting and inventory. Operations provides a simple introduction to scheduling and timely purchasing and so contrasts with Teamskill that comprehensively involves factory management. UMIX puts scheduling and purchasing in the complete company context and PROTEST allows a custom project to be managed.

Notes:
1 Duration shows the normal duration for the simulation. In some
circumstances, any duration with an a
superfix can be run in an an abbreviated form. And any with a b superfix can be enhanced with additional,
optional, activities.
2. Topics codes the topics covered by the simulation as follows:
A -
Business Appreciation
D - Research and Development
F - Finance
G - General Management
H - Strategic Management
M - Marketing
N - Negotiation
O - Operations
P - Purchasing
S - Sales
T - Team Building
The level of the simulation is shown using upper and lower case. If the simulation is suitable for middle through senior management the topic letter is shown in upper case. If suitable for functional specialist, graduate trainees, junior through middle management the topic letter is upper case. If both upper and lower case is shown the simulation is suitable for both groups.
The sequence of topic letters shows the relative importance of the topic.
All simulations provide a degree of team building and working but those showing T or t especially emphasise the topic.
3 All simulations are available as a Fully Tutored presentation and we can quote for any size group inclusive of documentation. Travel and, if appropriate, accommodation is charged at cost. Also, if considerable travelling time is involved or the simulation is spread over a course additional fees may be charged.
4 Rental is where simulation is used on a single course for a week. Where the simulation is tutored, the rental fee is in addition to the tutoring fee and for those simulations marked with a c superfix rental is only available as part of a fully tutored presentation or after training.
5 Academic Licence are especially subsidised or sponsored editions of the simulation. The simulator is provided on a perpetual licence basis for use on full time academic courses in schools, colleges and universities. Its use for short courses or commercial training is expressly prohibited. The package includes a comprehensive teacher's manual, a copy of the simulator and the standard participant's manual for duplication. (Simulator maintenance is provided as an optional extra.)
7 Type defines the way the simulation is run and hence hardware requirements.
TM indicates that the simulation is Tutor Mediated where teams submit decisions to the trainer who then enters them into to simulation and, after simulation, returns results fo the teams. This form of simulation allows teams to interact in the market place and (except for SMITE) can handle between two and eight teams on a single microcomputer (and printer).
DU indicates Direct Use (one where the simulation is used directly by the participants) and, if appropriate, market responses are simulated by the model. This form of simulation requires a microcomputer and printer for each team. (Although for simulations marked with an s superfix up to three teams can share a microcomputer and printer.
NE indicates that the simulation is a Computer Enhanced Negotiation Role Play where each selling and buying group need a microcomputer and printer.
With Tutor Mediated (TM) simulations decisions are processed synchronously and thus these simulations last longer than Direct Use (DU) simulations where decisions are processed asynchronously.
