Tutoring Simulations This page is designed to help you decide whether it is possible and appropriate for you to run the simulation yourself or whether you should get us to run it for you

Our most popular simulations are all available for you to run yourself but even so it may not be appropriate for you to run the simulation yourself. So, this page lists a series of questions that you should be able to answer yes!

Is the simulation available for you to run yourself?
Are you going to run the simulation regularly?
Can you (and a colleague) budget time to get up to speed?
Is your initial group size twenty or less?
Is the timetable reasonable?
Are you comfortable with computers?
Are you familiar and happy with participant centred learning?
Do you have the appropriate business knowledge?

Is the simulation available for you to run yourself?

In general our most popular simulations - those lasting a day or less are available for you to run yourself. Our more complex and newest simulations are only available for us to run for you (on a turnkey basis if you are a training provider - we do not run courses directly).

 

Are you going to run the simulation regularly?

As you will need to budget time to get up to speed and once up to speed you need to maintain your familiarity, if you are not going to run a simulation three or more times a year it may be better for us to run the simulation for you.

 

Can you (and a colleague) budget time to get up to speed?

Although all our simulations are easy to use, have the necessary tutoring documentation and have appropriate tutoring/participant support systems, you must spend some time becoming familiar with the simulation and the simulator.

 

Is your initial group size twenty or less?

Although an experienced trainer (with help) can handle groups of up to forty (eight teams of five) or several groups in parallel, this is not recommended until you have experience running the simulation. (However, having said this I know of at least one occurrence where trainers successfully ran for the first time a simulation for a group of sixty!)

 

Is the timetable reasonable?

If you are running the simulation in an abbreviated manner (at a conference or on an assessment centre) if is probably better for us to run the simulation for you. But if you are running it in the normal fashion or spread over a course you should have no problems.

 

Are you comfortable with computers?

Although our simulations are designed to be easy to use and thus suitable for most trainers, if you are uncomfortable with using computers (e.g.. do not use them for Word Processing and E-mail) then it is probable better for us to run the simulation for you.

 

Are you familiar and happy with participant centred learning?

If you feel that learning is all to do with instructing (lecturing) the learners where you control the process and are uncomfortable where the learners take charge of the learning process then simulation is not for you!

 

Do you have the appropriate business knowledge?

If you have moved in to training after a career in industry the answer to this question is almost certainly yes. If your background is training and HR then you will find our simulations an excellent way of learning about business!

If any of these questions are NO!
It is probably advisable to ask us to run the simulation for you. However, if you work with us during the day then you should be able to run the simulation yourself later.

Train the Trainer
To get you up to speed quickly we can provide a train the trainer session where with you we will run the simulation with a class, Following this we will spend a like amount of time debriefing the run and ensuring that you fully understand the software and the simulation.
